Login/Logout TAB is Missing or My Account Page is empty

The HelpAccountants web site needs Java Scripts to be enabled in the browser.

If Java Scripts are not enbaled, the Login/Logout TAB may be missing. The TAB should be in the top right hand corner of every page, just above the Help TAB. If it is missing then it may be that Java Scripts have been disabled in your browser.
Disabled Java Scripts may also results in the My Account page not displaying the personal information correctly.

Problems with Opening PDF Documents

The majority of the information stored on the web site is contained within short PDF documents. You can download a free viewer for PDF documents from Adobe.
Click here or on the icon below to download a free version of Adobe Acrobat Reader from Adobe's web site.

Many web browsers try to help by opening PDF documents within the web browser rather than opening them in the Adobe application. The first PDF document is opened slightly quicker but you are not able to have several documents open at the same time. The other problem is that if you close the document you close the whole web broswer!
Help Accountants recommend that you configure Aobe and your web browser so that the PDF documents are opened in the Adobe application. I.e. the same way that the other Microsoft Office documents (Word, Excel etc) are. This allows you to have several documents open at the same time and stops you accidentally closing the web browser when you close the PDF document.

Help with the Search Tool - Advanced Search Criteria

The simple search tool that is displayed on all pages can be used for quick searches where just a few simple words specify the criteria. The advanced search tool allows a more restrictive criteria.
On both search tools the text entered in the Search box can be a simple name or word, or it can also be a complex search string that uses:
Asterix character (*) for multi character wildcard
Question mark (?) for single character wildcard
Logical operators and, or, not and parenthesis.

foo searches for documents containing the listed keyword foo
foo bar searches for documents containing ALL of the listed keywords
"foo bar " searches for documents containing the specified phrase, that is containing both foo and bar
foo and bar searches for documents containing ALL of the listed keywords
foo or bar searches for documents containing EITHER of the listed keywords
foo and not bar searches for documents containing just the first keyword
foo* searches for documents containing the text that starts with the letters foo

Help with the Search Tool - "No documents were found that matched your search"

The search results are listed in oder of their relevance to your search query. This is called hit rate. The search engine scores the documents depending on where the search words are found. The highest scores are given to hits in the keyword document properties. The next highest scores are given to documents that contain the words within the document title and lastly documents that just contain the search word within the body of the document are given the lowest score.
If the search results in "No documents were found that matched your search." then the tool was unable to find any documents that matched all of your search criteria. I.e. your words were not found in the keywords, title or body.
Suggestions:
  • Make sure all words are spelled correctly
  • Try different keywords
  • Try more general keywords
  • Try fewer keywords
  • Check the date range that you have specified is not too restrictive
If you are you are still unable to find what you are searching for, click to send an email to contact. Include the details of the searches that you have tried, and a description of the information that you are looking for.

Search Tool - Search by Document Reference Number

Most of the documents on Help Accountants have a unique identifier or document reference number in the top right hand corner. These numbers are unique to the document. You can always find the latest version of a document by entering the reference number in the search tool. I.e. PAY057 in the example shown below.

Portable Document Format (PDF)

The majority of the information stored on the web site is contained within short PDF documents. A PDF documents take a little longer to download than a web page, but PDF has the following benefits:

  • It is easier to download and save a PDF document than a web page. This allows the information to referred to when you are not connected to the internet.
  • It is easier to print a PDF document than a web page. With PDF you do not get the page cropping problems that you usually get with web pages.
  • The PDF viewer allows you to view the text in a size which is comfortable for you.
  • The PDF document will look the same on your screen as it did on the authors. This ensures that the information is displayed correctly and tables are not miss-aligned.
  • A free PDF viewer is available for the popular operating systems (Windows, Linux, Symbian and Macintosh etc).

To view PDF documents you need to use a PDF file viewer such as Acrobat Reader or Acrobat Exchange from Adobe Systems Incorporated. Click here or on the icon below to download a free version of Adobe Acrobat Reader from Adobe's web site.

The recommended version of the Adobe reader is V7.0. This version loads documents much faster than V6.0 and has fixed many of the delays in closing documents that existed in previous versions. If you do upgrade to V7.0 please remeber to backup your entire PC. If you have problems opening (loading) PDF documents from within your browser after the upgrade, it may help to uninstall and then re-install your browser application.

Help With Pop-Up Stoppers

If you have problems opening the guidance documents, you may have an old version of a pop-up stopper program running. I.e. nothing happens when you click on the link. Pop-Up stoppers are there to prevent unsolicited advertising on web sites. Unfortunately the same mechanism is used on this web site to open the guidance documents in a new window. The latest pop-up stoppers can differntiate between the harmless pop-ups used on this site and the unsolicited ones used on other sites.
If you are having problems, try temporarily disabling the pop-up stopper. If this solves the problem, upgrade your pop-up stopper or use a browser like Firefox that has inteligent pop-up stoppers built in.
